Defolitant missions

Just a few more links and resources that I have found over half term that may be useful to add to your essay for part A

Operation Ranch Hand (US Air force website)

Operation Trail Dust

Operation Sherwood Forest and Operation Hot Tip
These were forest burning attacks rather than using traditional defoliants but they became very popular with the US air force as a way of clear large areas of jungle.

Planning your controlled assessment

To help you plan for part A of your controlled assessment I have added a link below to the PowerPoint we used in class. This is only a starting point but you may find it useful.

Preparing for Part A

The mark scheme for part A can be found below

Student Mark Scheme (Part A)

I have also added a link to some general information about how the Vietnam War ended. This is to support your knowledge rather than to be used as a source in your essay

Final Phase (1968-75)

And finally I have added a link to the hand out we asked you to print at the start of this course. The reference is Ben Walsh and Christopher Culpin "GCSE Modern World History Edexcel Unit 4 Controlled assessment CA5: Vietnam,1960-75" Hodder Education, 2009.

Agent Orange

The website and YouTube clip below are a good source of information of the impact and legacy of Agent orange in Vietnam. You must remember that Agent Orange is not the only herbicide used in Vietnam but it is the most common and has had the longest lasting effects.
